Board Meeting Update, 1/28/13

At last night’s Executive Board meeting, Superintendent Spears updated the Board on the organization’s progress to open a new TK-8 charter school. Currently there are 572 students on the intent to enroll list. This commitment and the enthusiasm expressed by these families are encouraging.

The Board received a draft Charter Petition and a Projected Statement of Revenues, Expenditures, and Changes to Fund Balance Revenues for the Board’s information and review. The administration is scheduling a special meeting on February 7, 2013 to discuss proposed revisions to the Charter Petition and approval by the Board. The Charter Petition, for the most part, is a replication of the current Rocklin Academy Charter.

The meeting on February 7, 2013 will include a closed session to continue facility lease negotiations and an open session to review a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Newcastle Elementary School District has agreed to consider sponsorship of our Charter. Next week, Superintendent Spears will be meeting with Kathi Dougherty, Superintendent of Newcastle Elementary School District, to review the Charter and discuss the content of the MOU.

During the next few weeks, administration will develop a comprehensive calendar of events outlining all of the activities and Board actions which will lead to the opening of a new school. Our intention is to open this school in the 2013-14 school year; however, you should be aware that many factors could delay the opening.

Moving in a positive direction!

Rocklin Academy’s plans for expansion are moving in a positive direction. After our executive board meeting on January 28th, we will provide a more detailed update of our progress.
